BTBE Founder Jay-Marie Hill

Grown from a seed in 2019, the Black Trans Bike Experience began as a 160-mile Adventure Bike Ride from Philadelphia to Washington, D.C. for the first ever National Trans March.

What has since emerged is a Black, Trans, Womanist and emergent community offering that primarily seeks to:

  • strengthen connections between Black & trans people as individuals, neighbors in hoods and their broader communities,

  • celebrate developing Black youth, believe Black women and support Black Trans bodies,

  • demystify and increase access to the multi-faceted activity/sport of biking and the cycling industry, and

  • to increase a lifelong sense of belonging in Bike-healthy communities and the cycling industry, at-large.

Celebrating 5 Years of Gathering Community:

2019 - 160mile Ride & Black Trans D.C. Celebration

2020 - BTBE x Freedom Arts Black Youth Cycling Workshops

2022 - DIY Bicycle Workshops; Monthly Group Rides & a trip to Atlanta for the 10th Annual Bikerversary

2023 - Group [Training] Rides, Community Dinners, Ferguson 70mile Overnight, GRIT Fest

2024 - Group Rides, Touring & more…

Join Us!

In doing the above, our community offerings

1) transcend scarcity models of Black // Trans Death (C), focusing communities toward an embodied sense of strength and freedom.

2) build tighter bonds amongst Black // Trans, and other often geographically disconnected communities.

3) increase an embodied sense of affirming, intentionally-built community among Black // Trans people around the US and internationally.
